14 September 2018 – We read this on the Northumbria Community’s Daily Prayer site the other day. https://www.northumbriacommunity.org/meditations/meditation-day-10/
Simple joys are holy
If you want your dream to be
Take your time, go slowly
Do few things but do them well
Heartfelt work grows purely
If you want to live life free
Take your, time go slowly
Do few things but do them well
Heartfelt work grows purely
Day by day, stone by stone
Build your secret slowly
Day by day, you’ll grow too
You’ll know heaven’s glory
If you want to live life free
Take your time go slowly
If you want your dream to be
Take your time, go slowly
‘Little Church’ (Donovan Leitch)
As I have reflected on this and on my Camino it feels that these last few days of rest have been a real Godsend. The Camino has felt like a real rush! People get up really early; at one hostel someone got up and left around 230am. Another pilgrim got up thinking his alarm had gone off for 6am, he got dressed and got ready to go, when in fact someone had called his phone at 11pm. Most people on the Camino rise about 6am pack in the dark with their head torches on and leave in the dark. We haven’t been so keen, normally leaving between 7 and 8am. There is method to this madness: – it’s cool early in the morning and it starts to get hot at 10! But there is an aspect of drivenness that I’m sensing…
However in my rest days I have been able to bump into people in a big city, not an easy thing and I got to sit and chat with Alain over a coffee then over his lunch. A bishop once said:
“When I pray, coincidences happen, and when I don’t, they don’t. “
