22 September 2018 – Our last accommodation was not quite what we expected.
We had hoped for a private room so we could have some peace and quiet and so we could rest and not wake so early in the morning. If you are following my blog Airbnb then you know how I appreciate my sleep.
Well our lovely host was very friendly, communications weren’t a problem and she even let us arrive early to leave our bags in the apartment.
When we returned at check in time we let ourselves into the room she had pointed out. But it didn’t look like the pictures on your website. We let our host know and it seemed our room hadn’t been ready when we arrived so she put us in the next available (which incidentally wasn’t ready either when we arrived early; beds not made, no towels and not hoovered).
Being exhausted from our 18km walk we thought let’s make the best of it.
We went out for the evening returning earlyish as we were still tired and went to sleep.
At 3:17am two men arrived back to the apartment. How do I know…they closed the front door loudly and we’re talking rather animatedly in Spanish about some “hot girls” (Biarritz Spanish for Travellers not required- speaking loudly in any language makes you understood!) they were with.
They turned on their room light which illuminated ours, shining through the glass double doors that separated the two rooms.
They shuttled back and forward to the toilet, not even brushing their teeth! But leaving the bathroom door ajar; which it turns out was a blessing as the door sticks and requires a good loud slam to close it properly.
They retired to their beds and must have had worse beds than the newish one we had (a slightly redeeming feature). Each movement they made was reciprocated with creaks from the bedsprings.
We didn’t feel the need to aggravate the situation by speaking to them.
However, 7:45 came round and someone from the room next door got up, used the facilities and left loudly.
Ah well we had set our alarm for 9:30!
Breakfast was promised in the home manual but didn’t materialise, the hob didn’t work so we couldn’t cook our own.
We got out as quick as we could but it seems this guy had a harder job getting out….

Yours tiredly,
Mark
