Mansillas de los Mulas

Mansillas de los Mulas is a small town on the Camino, partially surrounded by ancient walls built with river stones.

River stones being ovalish and smooth must have been a difficult building material to work with. It seemed like they were built into mud to bind them together. I can’t imagine they would have withstood cannon fire for long. But obviously not fired on by much shot as they are still there centuries later.

I found this group of houses as I walked around. I was quite taken by the colours.
